TradeWorthy supports new e-commerce strategy for the Pacific

TradeWorthy is proud to have supported the development of the Pacific Regional E-commerce Strategy and Roadmap for the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS).

The initiative focuses on the regional dimension of E-commerce with three broad outcomes: (1) more online consumers; (2) more online businesses; who are (3) connected through a faster and more inclusive network.

The Pacific e-commerce strategy and roadmap, supported by funding from the Australian Government, was formally adopted by the Forum Trade Ministers in August 2021. This followed consultations over 4 months which culminated with a high-level validation workshop in July 21-23, 2021 attended by more than 200 stakeholders from the region and beyond, including high-level officials, private sector representatives, NGO and development partners.

Given travel restrictions, TradeWorthy was able to use innovative tools to reach out to more than 300 stakeholders, including online surveys, focus-group discussions, bilateral consultations and ‘resource mobilization’ pitches. A copy of the regional strategy and roadmap as well as of each of the 11 national readiness assessment is available here: https://www.forumsec.org/2021/02/23/pacific-e-commerce-initiative/

The regional strategy complements TradeWorthy’s ongoing work with Tonga, Vanuatu and Tuvalu and past work in developing six of the 11 national eTrade reports in the past four years.

We thank all Ministers, officials, participants, stakeholders – and our outstanding consultant team – for exceptional efforts in exceptional times!
